Happy New Year!
“Out with the old and in with the new!” is a familiar sentiment every January. This is the time of year for new habits, new attitudes, and new opportunities.
The start of a new year is also a great time to give yourself, and your children, a new start, too…to start the new year by cleaning the slate.
Clean The Slate Of Their Mistakes
Are there past mistakes your children have made that you are still holding onto? Have you been a little too slow to forgive, to allow trust to be rebuilt? Could it be time to wipe the slate clean?
Clean The Slate Of Your Mistakes
You’ve made A LOT of parenting mistakes in the past year. So has every other parent on the face of the earth! Don’t let your parenting failures from the past haunt you…learn from them, forgive yourself, grow as a parent and move into the new year with confidence.
PRO TIP: When it comes to cleaning the slate concerning mistakes you and your children make, practice the art of the second, third and fourth chance.
Clean The Slate Of Your Expectations
This isn’t to suggest you shouldn’t have expectations of your children. But it is a reminder that some of the expectations you have should be reevaluated from time to time, and a new year is a good time to do so.
Do you have unrealistic expectations about grades, sports, the type of college your child will attend, etc? It may be wise to clean the slate of current expectations and replace it with a few that matter most.
Happy New Year, parents! You’ve got this.
