Positive Discipline Strategies for Traumatized Children

Event Details

  • Date:

In this class, participants will learn about the symptoms and maladaptive behaviors related to trauma including noncompliance and meltdowns. Often times, resource parents find out their children continue to engage in maladaptive behaviors and come up empty- handed when they try to use various punishment-based strategies. This class will discuss some of the problems associated with using punishment-based strategies for traumatized children, and outline specific strategies to be used that focus on positive behavioral supports. Participants will gain new ideas for positive behavioral programming, which may help your child learn new skills and decrease maladaptive behaviors.

The class is taught by David Adams, Psy.D. , L.P.C.C., B.C.B.A.D. David has two children that he adopted from the foster care system. In addition to his formal education his real life experience at home has given him extensive insight that he will be sharing with you.

A light dinner will be provided. If you made your own arrangements for childcare we offer vouchers to help cover your childcare costs. This class is a part of our Foster & Kinship Care Education Series (FKCE) to help you stay current with best practices in parenting. Thank you for all you do to help children thrive!
